First Fridays in the Kansas City Crossroads Arts District are kind of a big deal. The neighborhood is known for having numerous art galleries, and many of them stay open late and have special events on the first Friday of the month. The city closes some streets to have pop up booths, music, and food vendors. And it's packed with people! Driving through the Crossroads (or anywhere near it) is nigh impossible on those nights.
It's been a few years since I've been to a First Friday (because fighting crowds makes Jen a grumpy grump grump), but I'm familiar with the event's reputation as #goals for artists. I focused so much on other events this summer that I totally forgot to look into participating at First Fridays...until a couple weeks ago when Cheryl Eve Acosta reached out to me about pop ups she's doing at her studio each month.
So milestone moment here: someone proactively reached out to me about doing an event, instead of the other way around! I've passed this studio before (it's just down the street from where I rented gallery space last year at Kansas City Design Collective) and I was super excited that a successful KC artist noticed me! Someone I've never even met before! It truly felt like I may finally be getting my name out in the world.
So I'll be joining a few other artists at Cheryl Eve Acosta studio at 217 West 19th terrace Kansas City this Friday, Aug. 6 from 5-8pm for my first First Friday event. Come join us if you can--it's sure to be a good time for date night or family outings!
