This week I made some legit progress! Maybe I'm finally turning the corner after weeks of little to no art. Catch up with last week here. I really, really hate ironing, so I tried to flatten my MIL's piece by lightly misting the back with water & putting heavy paper cutter on it for over a day. It's better...but still not great. I also realized that, once again, it's an irregular size and won't fit a standard mat/ frame. Grrr!! Why do all paper manufacturers make pre-cut paper that doesn't fit standard sizes!?!? It's so infuriating! 7x10, 10x14, etc are worthless...

Well it's been another week, and very little has changed here in my world. Last time here. Do you prefer your good or bad news first? Today I'm going to start with the bad so we can end on a brighter note. Bad news item 1: I haven't gotten back into the swing of things after the holidays. I'm not painting consistently yet, and I have very little motivation. I painted a bit once or twice this past week, but not enough. As I wrote yesterday, I think "same shit, different day" is my overall sense of my life. I'm feeling very...

Wow my first blog post of 2021, and it's on the very first day of the year. Last week here. The bad news from the past week is: I made barely any progress on my MIL's commission. I started doubting my previous color choice & started a new background, but got no further than that. I did very little art-ing overall, although I did more yesterday with some of my new supplies from Christmas. I received a 100% cotton mixed media sketchbook I had on my wish list, which turned out to be better quality than I had realized. Overall, my experiments weren't successes, and there will...

I'm a day late and a dollar short. What even happened last week?? Let's review. Ah yes. Wow that was only a week ago? It feels like a month! It was a stressful week both professionally, personally and artistically. I didn't paint daily like I should have, but I focused on a commission for my mother in law as I needed to do. I felt better overall with the quality of work I created last week. I painted a few more bonfires, trying out a few more of my ideas. It was a mixed bag--I like the vibrant neon colors I...

And we're back with another look at the past week in the life of a part-time watercolor artist. Last time here. This last week start off poorly, carrying over my painter's block and dissatisfaction with my work from the week before. I started Angela Fehr's 2020 winter workshop since it focuses on abstract paintings. I felt surprisingly good about some of my notan work and jumped right in to color experiments. But something just wasn't working. I liked a few color combos I tried, and I moved on to some larger attempts...but I wasn't super happy with any of them...
